Lets Take a Trip to the Chicagoland Area
We all live in the Chicagoland area, but have we really ever
visited and seen all of the different areas that make up this
"great heartland of the midwest"? Many people do not
realize the natural beauty and the many forms of wildlife
that we have sitting right here at our own backyard. Well it
is time that we show off this great area so that others might
come and enjoy this area that we call home.

The Chicago Wilderness Society has asked us to make
some travel brochures that will be able to show off the
different wilderness areas, to not only the visitors to our
area, but to all the people of the Chicagoland area. It is the
hope of this travel brochure, that we can not only
encourage the people to visit these different areas, but to
also appreciate the different kinds of wildlife they might
encounter, and the very fragile balance these areas have
with our human world. We have a big task in front of us,
but it is one that can truly educate the people in our
Chicagoland areas.

There are 6 major kinds of biomes, or nature areas, that
are found in the Chicagoland area. They are: prairies,
woodlands, wetlands, dunes, lakes/ponds, and
streams/rivers. Maybe a good place to start our
investigation is the Chicago Wilderness site itself.

The Chicago Wilderness Society has asked that our travel
brochures be creative and inviting for the people that will
be visiting the areas. The brochures should show the
visitors what kinds of things they might see when they
actually visit the area. Things like the different plants and
animals that are native to that particular biome area. In
our brochure, we also need to explain about how our ever
expanding human world is affecting the biome, and what
we all need to do now to help and restore these places of
natural beauty and life. And lastly, where in the
Chicagoland area can we actually see these nature biomes,
and if we were to travel to other parts of our country, where
might we also see these kinds of areas.

You will need to work with the members of your group, and
decide which person will be doing what part. Each of you
will then be responsible for creating that part of the travel
brochure and all of the materials that will be going into that
part. At the very end we will then take all of the different
parts and create our Chicago Wilderness Travel Guide.

Here are the guidelines that the Chicago Wilderness
Society has set down to what they believe will be a good
travel guide:
1. Creative and attractive brochure=30% value
2. Need at least 5 pictures=30% value
3. Appropriate explainations of the materials=30% value
4. Need to have a minimum of 3 references=6% value
5. Title and Author credit=4% value
(50 points total=100%)
